In 1971, Lavon Drive Baptist Church voted to begin a Christian school. The leadership and congregation of Lavon Drive believed then, and still believe, that a dedicated, separated, private Christian school could provide an effective, Christ-centered alternative to the secular education offered in public schools.
In August of 1972, with 136 students and 12 faculty members, the school opened its door to students in kindergarten through sixth grade. In the second year of operation, grades seven through eleven were added. The school recognized the first graduating class in 1975. Excitement about the school’s growth ran throughout the church membership
Within a few years, Lavon Drive Baptist Church and Garland Christian Academy had become synonymous. The school had become and continues to this day to be a vital part of the ministry of the church. GCA has provided a Christian educational environment for the students of LDBC and the surrounding community.
Today, GCA serves students from Pre-K4 through the12th grade, offers honors courses and dual credit for the high school, as well as providing numerous extracurricular programs including all major sports and Fine Arts. GCA has a godly heritage, and we are excited to see what God has in store for the future of Garland Christian Academy.
